When Do I Need New Car Tires?
It doesn’t take an expert to figure out when it is time to replace old tires with a new set. Here are a few tips to distinguish when you will likely need new tires.
TIRES LAST 5-10 YEARS
In general, car tires only last somewhere between five and ten years. After five years have passed, it is advised to begin getting annual tire checks to make sure you are not driving on tires that are not safe. Once it gets to ten years, even if your tires are looking like they are in good shape you should likely replace them.
CHECK THE TIRE TREAD
One of the best ways to determine if it is time to replace your tires is by checking the tread on your tires. One of the most common and easiest ways to check your tire tread is with the penny test. The penny test is when you place Lincoln’s head on the coin into a tire groove. If any part of his head is covered by the tread on your tires, you are all good. If not, it is time to replace your tires.
INSPECT YOUR TIRES
Look over your tires for noticeable wear and tear. If you see something that looks suspect, you probably should replace your tires.
